Everything alive sits inside an atmosphere barely one hundred kilometres deep — thinner, in proportion, than the skin on an apple. From orbit that shell reads as a single bright rim of light against absolute black.

Seventy-one percent of the surface is ocean, and the ocean drives the weather, the carbon cycle and the colour that makes Earth identifiable from millions of kilometres away.

Rock that flows

Below the crust the mantle creeps a few centimetres a year. That slow convection carries continents, opens oceans and rebuilds mountain ranges on a schedule measured in tens of millions of years.

An iron dynamo

A solid inner core of iron and nickel sits inside a molten outer core. Their motion generates the magnetic field that deflects the solar wind and keeps the atmosphere from being stripped away.

Welcome to AetherX

AetherX is an independent deep sky observatory and imaging studio. We point long exposure optics at the faintest structures in the night sky and bring them back as clean, honest photographs. No invented colour, no shortcuts, only patient light collection over many nights.

Every frame in our archive is processed from raw sensor data, documented with capture notes, and published so students, researchers and curious people can study the universe with the same material we use ourselves.

The Milky Way holds a few hundred billion stars inside a disc roughly one hundred thousand light years across, and we sit far out on one of its minor arms. From that quiet suburb we can still resolve star forming regions, dying shells of gas and the faint glow of galaxies far outside our own. These frames are our slow survey of that neighbourhood.

About Outer Space

Space begins about one hundred kilometres above sea level, but the interesting part starts much further out, where there is no atmosphere left to blur the signal. Everything we photograph left its source long before our equipment existed, which makes each exposure a direct look into the past.

Light is the only material we work with, and it arrives in small quantities. Collection time is the single largest factor in image quality, and sky conditions, seeing and light pollution are recorded for every session so the archive stays scientifically useful.
